Krakow, Cracow, Cracovie...

Where to Live? Only in Krakow!

A few thousand Cracovians already know that Krakow is the place where it is good to live, but recently The whole Europe has learnt about it due to the Urban Audit ranking for the year 2007, which has just been decided. The research has been carried by "Eurobarometr" - the centre for researching public opinion, which acts on behalf of European Commission. 300 European cities have been scrutinized, and that included as much as 4 Polish cities: Krakow, Warsaw, Gdansk and Bialystok. First of all, standard of living was evaluated. What was taken into consideration was the assessment not of the specialists, but of the inhabitants themselves.

What were the results? The first place was taken by the relatively small Dutch town of Groningen, and Krakow received the second place, defeating the cities such as Paris, Rome, Prague, London and Barcelona. The ranking showed that although the Cracovians realise that there are some drawbacks of living in their city, they still consider Krakow to be a special place, a renowned place with exceptional assets.

The assets include not only the historical sights, but also rich cultural life (festivals, artistic reviews), interesting places outside the Old Town (Kazimierz, Podgórze, Salwator, Nowa Huta), many green areas and places of natural beauty in the vicinity (Jurassic rocks of Jura Krakowsko-Czestochowska, Puszcza Niepolomicka forests and the Tatra Mountains). Increasing popularity of Krakow as a tourist spot constitutes an additional advantage as it fosters the development of the city.

Evidently, Krakow is not only a place worth visiting, but it is also a city appreciated by its inhabitants.
