Krakow, Cracow, Cracovie...

Resting by the water

The wave of heat which has recently affected the south of Poland aroused in many people the the drive to spend at least one day by the water. Ihabitants of Krakow also dream of this way of relaxation. However, as not all the Cracovians have the possibility of going away to the lakes or to the sea-side, and there are also many tourists who spend holidays in Krakow and suffer from heat, it seems worthwhile to give some information where you can splash in water not going very far.

Beautiful weather encourages to spend time in the open air, so indoor swimming-pools will not be mentioned, as you can go there out of season. There are a few outdoor swimming-pools in Krakow, however, unfortunatelly, not all of them meet the expectations of the visitors.

On a scorching day you can go for example to the Wisla swimming-pool at Reymonta Street. Its frequenters probably wouldn't have any objections to recommend it, but it isn't the best facility of this type in Krakow and, what's more, it is always overcrowded. Another possibility provides the Clepardia swimming-pool at Mackiewicza Street, yet here as well there are usually many people. Less populous swimming-pools are those which go under the name of "Krakowianka" - at Bulwarowa, Zywiecka, and Eisenberga Street. The entrance tickets to all of the above mentioned pools amount to more or less the same price, which is 3 zloty for children under 7, 5-6 zloty for teenagers and 8 zloty for adults.

Another alternative, different than the city outdoor swimming-pools, is of course Kryspinów. The advantage of this place is the illusion of being at the naturl lake, as it isn't a concrete hole but an artificial lake with the sandy beach. Unfortunatelly, there are also disadvantages, such as wild crowds both in water and on the beach, summer entertainment events, whose level is embarassing, not to mention prices: apart from the entrance fee you have to pay about the same to park your car. Additional disadvantage is the fact that to get there you have to go away from the city, as it is Kryspinów and not Krakow.

For free you can swim in Zakrzówek, but it is something for those who like daring experiences, as it is a rather dangerous place, especially for less skilled swimmers. And, apart from this, the motorists looking for swimming thrills in Zakrzówek may also feel endangered, as many thieves appear on unauthorized car parks.

If you don't like any of the above suggestions, you may still choose to go swimming to Park Wodny (Aquapark) in Dobrego Pasterza Street. There, you can't be short of attractions - neither in summer, nor in winter. So, have a nice swim!
